CBC Transition Team

Announcement #15

BACKGROUND: Since the Transition Team (TT) members attend the ministerial staff meetings weekly (while Church Council (CC) is not in the office weekly), issues that occur from week to week would be better addressed by TT in a more direct and timely manner. The new TT is a revised transition team with decision-making authority. TT will only have decision-making authority over specific tasks that CC approves.

APPROVED MOTION: As a result, Church Council approved the following changes to the Transition Team by a 12-0 vote in its August 10, 2021 meeting:

1. five TT members (Rev. Andrew Chao, Davy Chin, Larry Joe, August Lau and Rev. Danny Lee), while excluding CBC full/part-time employees and their spouses
2. authority for TT to manage and resolve issues/concerns from pastoral/ministerial staff
3. authority to set times/events for staff to be together
   
   

TT will continue its advisory role which includes working with the pastoral/ministerial staff in developing strategies for their goals.

TT will NOT be managing staff, but will be managing issues/concerns. TT could take on other specific tasks not related to staff if CC so desires.

END OF TERM: Stated authority for TT shall end when a new senior pastor is brought on board at CBC.

Announcement #14

Praise God that coronavirus cases are decreasing, that vaccines are readily available, and people are trying to return to pre-pandemic activities! CBC is gradually doing the same.

PLEASE PLAN TO COME BACK TO CBC STARTING JUNE 6, 2021 AS CBC WILL START THE FIRST HOUR (ENGLISH WORSHIP, MANDARIN WORSHIP AND CANTONESE CLASSES) AT 10:00 AM. (NOTE THE TIME CHANGE FOR ENGLISH WORSHIP) AND EMPHASIZE RECONNECTING DURING THE 2ND HOUR (11:15 AM - 12:15 PM).

Not all things will return to pre-pandemic "normal" - Lord's Supper will still be using individualized packets and offering will be collected in drop-off boxes. For the second hour, there will be combined classes for the summer; English adults and youth will be combined in the FLC for June 6 and June 13. An Information Sheet has been prepared that provides the June - August, 2021 summer schedule, room locations and teachers. It has been distributed to you through your SS teacher recently. You can also pick up a copy at the Sanctuary foyer. Let us worship, pray, study the Bible, minister and fellowship with one another again!

Related to returning to CBC, the Virus Task Force (VTF) continues to update its blog on the church web page regarding safety protocols based upon their assessment of the latest health data and governmental announcements - please read the latest blog before returning.

Announcement #13

In January, 2021, the Deacon Body and the ministerial staff implemented a liaison/advisory role with the six Standing Committees, Transition Team and the CBC Assessment Team (CAT). (Neither the deacon nor staff liaison will be voting members nor take on the formal duties of the committee members, unless he or she happens to be an official committee or team member.)

Their roles are to:

• 1. Improve communication and coordination during planning and decision-making
• 2. Advise and guide the aforementioned groups on the present and future needs of the congregation and staff, focusing on alignment with CBC's mission and vision.
• 3. Provide historical context and continuity since committee members change frequently.

Additionally, each deacon is partnered with ministerial staff to provide support, assistance and advice.
